Virginia NOW Elects New Board Members for 2006-2008

Fredericksburg, Va. – The Virginia Chapter of the National Organization for Women (VA NOW) has elected new leadership for the 2006-2008 term.

Marjorie (Marj) Signer, of Arlington, is the new president of the 3,200-member all-volunteer statewide organization of women and men. She is former legislative vice-president of VA NOW and was appointed by both Governor Mark Warner and Governor Tim Kaine to the Virginia Council on the Status of Women.  She is also a member of the Arlington County Democratic Committee steering committee.

“Freedom and equality are core feminist values and values that are important to all Virginians. Virginia NOW will continue to work vigorously for laws and public policies that reflect the Commonwealth’s historic commitment to freedom,” said Signer.

The election was held July 15 at the VA NOW State Conference in Fredericksburg.

Virginia NOW has chapters in Alexandria, Arlington, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, Montgomery County (Blacksburg), Roanoke Valley, Tidewater, and greater Northern Virginia. The organization advocates on behalf of women in Virginia in the areas of civic involvement, economic equality, personal safety, social equity in education, health, and public resources, and reproductive rights and full equality for persons who are gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual.
